Ashinaga is a Japanese non-profit organisation that provides educational and emotional support to young people who have experienced the loss of one or both parents. In the past 50 years, Ashinaga has supported more than 100,000 students, with this success in Japan allowing for the expansion of Ashinaga’s activities internationally in 2001 before the launch of the Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) in 2014. The Ashinaga Africa Initiative is an academic leadership programme with the mission to contribute to Sub-Saharan Africa’s expanding role in global development through increasing access to higher education abroad for students who are committed to returning home, or to the region of Sub-Saharan Africa, to initiate change, innovation, and development. The Ashinaga Sénégal office was created in 2015 and is responsable for running the Study Camp for students from francophone Africa in order to prepare them for their university studies abroad.
Job title : Programme Assistant for the Ashinaga Africa Initiative
Contract : Fixed term contract (CDD)
Salary : Between €900 and €1400 per month (pre-tax)
Location : Ashinaga Senegal, Dakar
Contract duration : 5th March 2018 until 29th March with a three-month trial period

Desired Profile**
- Academic qualifications : A bachelor’s degree or above
- Skills and Experiences : Able to work and communicate with individuals from a variety of different backgrounds.
- Flexible, patient and respectful with the regards to cultural differences.
- Experience working with NGOs, academic institutions or Japanese companies.
- Experience working with or participating in leadership development programmes.
- Interest in Africa and/or Japan.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Organisation, teamwork, flexibility, versatility, enthusiasm and punctuality.
Language Skills
Native level French speaker (C2 level)
Fluent English speaker (C1 level)
Knowledge of Japanese (preferred but not required)
Knowledge of Wolof (preferred but not required)
Responsibilities
To assist your superiors with;
- Recruitment and selection of francophone AAI candidates.
- Academic, emotional and financial support of francophone AAI candidates.
- Recruitment, selection and support of interns.
- Organisation of the Ashinaga Senegal AAI Study Camp.
- Diverse administrative tasks.
- Research.
- Creation of media content
Reports to : Programme Coordinator
Working Hours: Monday to Friday from 9am until 5pm (1-hour lunch break between 1pm and 2pm)
