Project Summary:
The Equitable Access to Education in Southern Senegal project aims to provide increased equitable access to education to girls and boys aged approximately 9 to 16 living in the crisis-affected Casamance regions (Ziguinchor, Sedhiou, Kolda) and Kedougou region. It is a five-year project.
Position Summary:
The Senior Gender Specialist is responsible for providing overall technical oversight and guidance to the project’s support to creating opportunities for girls’ inclusion in education and to addressing gender disparities.
Reporting & Supervision:
The Senior Gender Specialist reports to the Chief of Party and supervises several technical project staff.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as the lead technical expert on Gender for the program;
- Work with the Chief of Party on component work planning for the portions of the technical work for which they are responsible;
- Ensure gender integration in program design;
- Train and accompany government and community-based partners in the implementation of program interventions, to build their capacity over time;
- Collaborate with the Senior M&E Advisor to integrate monitoring arrangements into the M&E plan, and to collect and analyze data associated with their areas of responsibility.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in gender, education or other relevant field. Additional experience in similar type of programs may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree;
- At least 8 years of experience in relevant positions addressing gender disparities in developing countries;
- Experience in West Africa required. Experience in Senegal highly desired;
- Working proficiency in English and in French is required.
