Position Description: Short-term Technical Assistance for Gender, Climate, and Knowledge Management

Engility is currently seeking a short term technical assistance (STTA) on Gender, Climate, and Knowledge Management (KM) to support its Feed the Future Naatal Mbay project in Dakar, Senegal. The STTA will work with the project team to ensure completion of pre-defined deliverables and associated tasks.

Expected length and purpose of engagement:

The STTA assignment will be for an estimated period of 4 months, from November 2015 through February 2016 and will entail approximately 3 months of time working from the project office in Dakar, Senegal. The primary purpose is to provide coverage during the temporary absence of the permanent Gender, Climate, and KM Manager.

Anticipated responsibilities and deliverables:

The following is a preliminary list of tasks anticipated to be included in the specific Scope of Work for the STTA:

  • Project Reporting: Oversee preparation and completion of project reporting activities including bi-weekly reports and an annual report (Collection of team inputs in French; Report preparation in English).
  • Content and Knowledge Management System (CKMS): Ensure continued proper use of the CKMS and provide remote support to key field staff on management of the CKMS.
  • Knowledge Management: Ensure broad dissemination of Feed the Future branded technical papers (English and French); develop new KM products as identified. Provide continued ongoing support to ensure effective use of social media and communications tools to promote project knowledge and learning products.
  • Gender Assessment and Women’s Empowerment Strategy: Provide continued support and QA/QC to WEAI methodology development, validation, and execution; Finalize and validate Gender Assessment Report with project technical team; Analyze data and finalize draft of Women’s Empowerment Strategy to incorporate gender assessment results.
  • Gender Sensitization: Deliver training sessions as needed for staff and partners on gender and women’s economic empowerment.
  • Climate change training: Finalize climate change training module 1 content as needed and ensure launch of program.
  • Ensure effective implementation of FY16 planned activities for the gender and climate change cross-cutting areas.

Minimum Tangible Qualifications:

  • Five years’ professional experience in international development;
  • Master’s degree in international development, social inclusion, or a related field;
  • Previous experience implementing USAID Knowledge Management activities - developing KM databases, products and tools;
  • Basic understanding of USAID Gender and Climate Change approaches ;
  • Familiarity with Feed the Future programming and priorities;
  • Strong English writing skills in both technical and journalistic style;
  • Good working capacity in both spoken and written French;
  • Understanding of development issues and business practices in the African agriculture context;
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity.
