About MAG in Senegal

MAG supports the development of countries emerging from conflict by finding and destroying the explosive remnants of war, so communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury. The main area of focus of MAG’s programmes across West Africa is Arms Management and Destruction (AMD), working with national defence and security authorities toward the safe storage management as well as destruction of weapons and munitions. Our AMD operations are focused on armoury construction, design and management, weapons marking and management, assessment of needs and bulk demolitions. Senegal is a new programme for MAG. Following recent assessments in country MAG will be working with partners across a number of AMD activities.

About the role:

Our Technical Field Managers are the core of our work. The aim of the post will be to lead, oversee and safely manage all technical aspects of AMD activities including bulk demolitions, range clearance, support to training of national authorities, oversight of ammunition storage for Senegalese Armed Forces in accordance with International Standards and MAG’s policies and mandate. You will also provide technical expertise in support of assessment for humanitarian mine action

About you:

The successful candidate must be EOD Level 3+ qualified and will be experienced in managing AMD operations and bulk demolitions. Experience in Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and familiarity with regional and international SALW related texts and conventions is required. The successful candidate will also have report writing and office software skills and the ability to manage field budgets.

Successful candidates will need excellent diplomacy and liaison skills to effectively build relationships with partners, local authorities and security forces. They will have experience in managing field operations in developing countries. It is also crucial that the candidate is self-reliant and holds a high level of initiative. Fluent written and spoken French language skills are essential. Finally, all candidates must be willing to take on the challenges of working in the developing world and working as part of a flexible and committed team, to save lives in communities that need it most.
