Regional Humanitarian Nutrition Technical Advisor

The role

Regional Humanitarian Technical Experts drive the quality, accountability and timeliness of humanitarian responses and contribute to emergency preparedness in the region. Regional Technical Experts use their in-depth contextual understanding, technical expertise, and relationship building skills to provide a critical link between the Save the Children's global and country level technical work, strengthening our technical offer at the regional level. They play a strong role in regional capacity building efforts, mentoring and building networks across CO TEs, and foster cross-CO learning. They support regional advocacy and influencing and drive regional strategic partnerships for learning and new business development. They provide Quality Assurance and demand driven TA to COs, in line with regional priorities and design and input to implementation and monitoring of regional programmes.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that nutrition programmes in humanitarian contexts in WCA are delivering quality interventions by being supported with quality technical inputs and to drive the Public Health on the Front Line strategy.

The post holder will ensure that our emergency response work, preparedness and capacity building links closely with our longer term development and chronic humanitarian health programming to ensure a "full spectrum" approach to our nutrition programming that will impact on the quality of humanitarian programme delivery.

They will also ensure that communication and support to country programmes and external representation is closely coordinated. The Humanitarian Nutrition Advisor will directly line manage Humanitarian Surge Personnel (HSTs) and ensure deployments of key staff are supported in order to ensure the delivery of high quality, timely and accountable humanitarian nutrition programmes.

Qualifications

  • Nutrition professional with post graduate qualification in a relevant subject, or comparable field experience
  • Additional training in public health, behaviour change communication

Experience And Skills

  • At least 7 years' experience of delivering high quality in the implementation and management of humanitarian nutrition programmes , including first phase experience
  • Understanding of the humanitarian nutrition sector in WCA
  • Experience of contingency planning/emergency preparedness planning.
  • Experience of context, capacity and policy analysis, and influencing and advocacy at regional/international level in order to hold duty bearers to account to realise children's rights.
  • Experience of working with nutrition cluster coordination mechanisms in country and practical understanding of the cluster approach at country, regional and global level
  • Additional training in public health, behaviour change communication
  • Skilled at networking, representation and partnership development in order promote learning, strengthen civil society and mobilise resources.
  • Able to generate and use data and evidence to innovate, deliver, learn and share what works and what doesn't work for children
  • Experience of promoting quality and impact through at least one cross-cutting are: gender equality and inclusion, adaptive and safer programming.
  • Sound understanding of and commitment to SC generic programme approaches and core standards in humanitarian response
  • Demonstrated program design, monitoring and evaluation skills, including designing pathways to sustainable impact at scale.
  • Experience of developing and supporting teams, and the ability to lead, motivate and build the capacity of staff through training, coaching and mentoring
  • Results focused and ability to develop and drive innovative and pragmatic programmatic and operational solutions
  • Ability to work well across different functional areas and departments
  • Good knowledge of cross sectoral linkages with Humanitarian Nutrition and willingness to engage with other sectors for shared outcomes
  • Track record in successful business development/fundraising
  • Significant experience in training, capacity building, and mentoring
  • Experience of strategy development and planning
  • Fluent in French and English and high level of English writing skills.

Contract length: 02 years

Work location: Based in West and Central Africa (WCA) region in country with SCI programming - up to 50% travel
