Save the Children are seeking a Consultant to advance the organisation’s approach and role in developing child sensitive, adaptive social protection in the West Africa region.
Our aim, across our full social protection portfolio, is to collaborate with national governments and partners to scale-up social protection and improve impact for children. Adaptive social protection is a critical tool for building resilience in the Sahel helping to lift the most vulnerable in society out of the downward spiral of debt, asset depletion, and poor health and malnutrition.
The consultancy will undertake a scoping and research exercise to develop an approach to child-sensitive, adaptive social protection and to identify opportunities for Save the Children to programme and advocate in this area to support national systems. The consultancy will have a regional focus and will explore this area in relation to one or two focus countries with considerable potential for engagement and partnership.
To be successful you will be an experienced development professional with expertise in social protection in West Africa. You will also have:
· An academic/professional qualification at post-graduate level or equivalent in economics or social development
· Substantial experience of research, policy development and advocacy
· Strong track record of developing multi-sector programmes, with specific experience of integration with Social Protection, Nutrition and Food Security
· Demonstrated excellent analytical and programme design skills
· Demonstrated excellent communication and coordination skills, including demonstrated results in influencing
· Demonstrated excellent project design and proposal development skills
· Strong understanding of operational needs of development programmes
· Fluent spoken and written French and English.
