Senegal: Early Learning Education Specialist

The Early Learning Education Specialist will be responsible for the pedagogical programming for Imagination Afrika, in line with the organisation's learning framework. The focus of this role will be on ensuring high quality programming for Ker Imagination for; Playgroup, After-school, Holiday Camps, School visits, and Weekend Labs. This role will also be responsible for ensuring capacity-building of the team of facilitators and documenting all activities to produce a play-based learning curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development of monthly themes and daily activity plan for all programmes at Ker Imagination

The education specialist will be responsible for identifying an overall monthly educational theme, and for providing a detailed daily break-down of pedagogical activities for all programmes on a weekly basis. Define monthly themes and learning and define daily activity plans for all spaces, with clear identification of learning outcomes, materials, and facilitation guidelines. To be submitted to KI Programme Manager and IA Leadership Team every Wednesday for the following week

  • Development of capacity building schedule for facilitators

The education specialist will also be responsible for identifying the capacity building needs for the team of facilitators, and the KI Programme Manager. Training should take place once every two weeks, for 3 hours, for all KI facilitators. The responsibilities are to; (i) Define capacity building needs (ii) Identify trainers, or training materials, and schedule training sessions (to take place on Friday afternoons). (iii) Document training and provide a monthly summary of training activities

  • Monthly documentation of pedagogical activities in to curriculum

The education specialist will be responsible for sharing a monthly summary of activities to the IA Leadership teams, in the form of a thematic curriculum. The education specialist should call a monthly meeting with the KI Programme Manager, Operations Director, IA Programme Manager and the Director in order to review the monthly programming lessons learned, and curriculum. Responsibilities include; (i) submit a monthly curriculum, at the end of every month, to IA Leadership Team, (ii) Call a monthly meeting with IA Leadership Team to discuss major learnings from the monthly curriculum

  • Support in development of Imagination Afrika programming The early learning education specialist will be responsible for supporting the implementation of new programming related to the organisation, including support in proposal writing, supervision of programming and documentation of best practices and lessons learned. Where possible, the education specialist will also be responsible for following and supporting research implementation.

Experience and Education

  • Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to the possession of a bachelor’s degree in child development, advanced degree preferred.

  • Successful teaching experience in a public or private child care facility

  • Experience in data collection and research skills in the context of education programmes.

  • Knowledge of child development programs and principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in early childhood classroom instruction, with expertise in play-based learning.

  • Knowledge and understanding of performance based assessment practice
