The role

Save the children have is the co-lead with WHO for the RHWG in WCA.

The Regional hum health adviser sit on that forum, according to the frequents travels and in order to increase the Save the children influence and strengthening this forum, the WCA hum health adviser will need to increase STC capacity in there.

Under the supervision of the Regional humanitarian Health Technical Advisor, the Health Co-Lead officer will work in close collaboration with the Health Lead organisation (WHO) to coordinate and plan all health-related topics in RHWG.

Key responsibilities will consist of the organisation of meetings, joint sectorial and multi-sectorial meetings assessments etc. as well as updating and implementing the regional health sector strategy.

The Health officer will also be responsible for representing Save the Children at the regional other fora if requested , for high-level coordination with government representatives and partners, including advocacy on universal access to health entities.

1 Identify and make contact with members of the regional Health forum and strength the existing coordination mechanism between our members. 2 Facilitate regular coordination meetings with the lead WHO once a month with the WCA health adv, the scope related to IAWG will be to include once every 3 month an hour dedicated to RH and make sure that relevant actor in Rep. Health are contributing on that. 3 Regularly collect and compile information on who do what and l then disseminate to members and other sectorial groups if need be. 4 Ensure health humanitarian needs are regularly identified through joint planning and coordination mechanisms. 5 Mobilise health group members to contribute to (i) the development and maintenance of an early warning system and appropriate rapid response mechanism for health, (ii) provide regular reports on the health services offered to the relevant regional stake holders and (iii) provide updated situation reports in the respective areas of intervention when possible in relation with all actor. 6 Ensure the active contribution of partners and their implication in the dynamic of the forum and common action for health interventions; assemble and disseminate other information relative to the RWHG, such as publications and / or regular health bulletins. 7 Lead on joint emergency planning for the Health regional group. and ensure the existence of accurate contingency plans to respond to any potential crises. 8 Identify offer and availability of technical trainings in health by all members of the Health working group. Coordination the dissemination of key technical documentation and organise workshops and regular trainings.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Full medical degree and / or MA in Public Health
  • Minimum of 3 years international experience working in emergency repsonse contexts or fragile states, with at least 3 years of experience in management and/or coordination of health programmes.
  • Excellent analytical capacity
  • Experience of working on health coordination
  • Ability to work in both French and English (written and spoken)

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience in health and project management
  • Previous health coordination experience for an international NGO
  • Previous experience working for Save the Children
